Ongoing Consultation Groups

Cloud Video Conference or Face-to-Face in El Cerrito

Normally, I have two monthly face-to-face groups that meet in El Cerrito CA, and a group that ‘meets’ via  Zoom video conference.  During the pandemic, we have switched all groups to Zoom.

My groups include lots of cases, a layering of theoretical approaches, and room for therapists to grow into effective trauma-informed clinicians. I practice and teach an Integrative Trauma Treatment Model, which emphasizes the following skills: assessment along the dissociative spectrum, affectively attuned psychoeducation, stabilization, attachment repair, and trauma resolution, using either Internal Family Systems (IFS) or EMDR/Flash Technique. I am a Certified Internal Family Systems Therapist as well as an EMDR International Consultant. I integrate both of these models into my work with therapists.

Members take turns presenting cases and asking questions. I integrate Internal Family Systems (IFS), Structural Dissociation, EMDR Therapy, Flash Technique, as well as tons of other models into my consultation.  Many methods of resourcing, trauma processing, and just good clinical judgement and assessment, will be woven into your learning here. I also share readings, videos, and information about trainings I think will be useful along the way. If you aren’t following me on my Facebook page, you may want to consider it as a way to stay in touch, hear about upcoming training opportunities, and new trauma treatment tools.

Second Thursday in El Cerrito, CA. 9-11 AM PST. This group is for therapists who are learning to treat trauma and dissociation from a number of theoretical perspectives. It is an ongoing discussion of cases, EMDR/Flash Technique, Structural Dissociation, and Internal Family Systems. This group is full. Email me if you would like to be next in line. Cost $80/group

-Second Friday in El Cerrito, CA. 12:15-2:15 PST. (Right now during the pandemic, we are meeting online via Zoom. from 12:15-1:45. The cost is $60) This group has openings!

This group is for therapists who are learning to treat trauma from a number of theoretical perspectives.  It is an ongoing discussion of cases, EMDR/Flash Technique, Structural Dissociation, and Internal Family Systems. -Alternate Tuesday Cloud Video Conference. 11-12 noon PST. This group has one opening. Email me if it sounds like the right group for you. Cost is $40/hour session

Guidelines for Presenting Cases

Though I am not rigid about this format, it does help us use our time together most efficiently. Please consider prepping your case beforehand.
In general, if you presented last time, let others have a chance first.
Please answer these questions IN ORDER:
1-Start with basic demographics of the client, age, gender, employed, married, anything else unusual or relevant?
2-What was their presenting problem when they first started with you, how long have you seen them, and how frequently do you see them now? Do you have limited sessions with them?
3-Why are you presenting them today? (focus your question, as best you can)
4-Then give us more history to flesh out the case, so we get the feeling/texture of the client.

Regarding the 10 Hours Consultation for EMDR Training

If you have been trained by Dr. Phil Manfield and are seeking your 10 hours of consultation to become trained in EMDR, please know that most of my students remain in my groups for longer than the required 10 hours. This is because I offer COMPREHENSIVE TRAINING in safely treating dissociation, complex PTSD, and attachment disorders, in addition to EMDR. This means my students learn a large variety of ‘PARTS’ interventions for stabilization of developmental trauma, sometimes in conjunction with EMDR interventions, and sometimes for use in advance of EMDR. If you want to  learn how to spot and treat the dissociative clients who are in your practice, then I’m your man. If you are wanting your 10 hours of consultation in order to get your EMDR certificate only, then I may not be the best consultant for you. Also, if you want to get credit for those 10 hours of EMDR consultation, you MUST present cases, top ten lists, and ask questions about treating your clients with EMDR.

Retreat for Therapists: Cultivating SELF-energy in the Midst of Uncertainty

Feeling exhausted, unfulfilled, moody?

Feel guilty taking time for yourself when so many people need you?

How can you cultivate gratitude when so many people are suffering?

Feeling Zoomed-out? A sort of vague exhaustion you can’t seem to shake? Feeling unusually moody? This is a weekend retreat designed to bring clarity and consciousness to the experience of being a helping professional during global uncertainty. Giving more to your clients and feeling less satisfaction is a story I keep hearing from colleagues. This retreat is a chance to look clearly at the many (often conflicting) feelings that lurk beneath your hardworking therapist self. Through meditation, writing, sharing, and movement, you will unblend from numb, scared and exhausted parts, and come into your true, magnificent SELF.

You can expect to leave the workshop with the tools to develop and maintain these practices, as well as an increased access to Self in your daily life and with your clients.

Become a Trauma-informed Phase-oriented Consultant | Email me if you’re interested!

This year-long course is designed to help you deepen your skills so you can ‘own’ this material. This is a year long study program. We will meet two times/month for 12 months. Email me if you are interested.

We will read and discuss the most important books in our field; study and perfect assessment along the dissociative spectrum, affectively attuned psychoeducation, stabilization methods, attachment repair, and trauma resolution. You must sign up for the year-long program, and commit to digging in and practicing these skills. Substantial knowledge of Trauma-informed treatment is a prerequisite.

This program fills the gap between understanding the concepts and reaching a level of competence with them. I realize my consultation groups are not enough immersion for many people to go from a surface understanding to a deep owning of what it is to offer trauma-informed, phase-oriented treatment.

I will teach a comprehensive curriculum infused with an awareness of Self and therapist parts: assessment, stabilization, attachment repair, and trauma processing, as well as some focus on shaping one’s ideal private practice (with or without a consulting component). Structural Dissociation, IFS EMDR, Flash Technique, along with a taste of several other parts theories will be utilized.

Between sessions, group members read (or re-read) The Body Keeps the Score, Healing the Fragmented Selves of Trauma Survivors, Complex PTSD: From Surviving to Thriving, as well as other resource material along the way. Also between meetings, members will meet with other members by phone or video, to do consultations on each other’s challenging cases, as a way to practice what they know. Note: some students have signed up simply to receive a deeper education, not necessarily to become consultants, which is fine with me. It’s all training that will serve them and their clients!

EMDRIA Approved Consultant in Training Group: 3 Spaces Left!

If you are an EMDRIA Certified Therapist who wants to take your skills and credentials to the next level, a new online group is forming NOW. Three spaces available. You must be trauma-informed, and have studied and learned parts work. We will meet on alternate Thursdays 12-1 PST, for 40 weeks (the required 20 sessions).

We will meet for 60 minutes, via Zoom.us.

Fees vary, depending on class size: 4 members $50, 3 members $65, and 2 members $95, per session.
Now is the time to read the EMDRIA guidelines, to make sure that you keep them in mind as you build your consulting practice.
Also, even though Zoom is the most reliable platform for video conferencing, now is the time to make sure your internet is as fast as possible. It is frustrating to have interruptions in communication. Also, transmission is helped by closing all the programs you are not using during our conference call.
You will need to complete an online CIT Declaration form before we start. Also, you must study and comply with the guidelines here: https://www.emdria.org/page/51
